Taken - Thriller

In my film analysis, I have chosen the thriller film, Taken. One of the technical areas of this film that creates thriller is the camera movement and shots. This shot here shows this person’s facial expression. He is a worried guard, pointing in a direction where there is trouble which straight away tells the audience something is going to go wrong. The camera fits in a lot of people looking back showing their expressions; frightened and fearful. This links back to thriller because it keeps showing people worried and then later shows the action.

The editing in the film helps the audience see the thriller. It cuts to various shots of people trying to get away quickly creating the thriller atmosphere and viewing different areas to raise the tension and suspense. Moreover, here we see a reaction shot of the guard which then reveals to us what is happening which creates the thriller. As the guard is looking afraid, it tells the audience that something definitely will happen because the main person that is in charge for the security and the singers safety.

The mise-en-scene in this scene, shows thriller by having close up of a weapon. A weapon has connotations of pain and killing which creates the thriller to the story as something could go wrong.  Furthermore, the atmosphere of the whole situation has smoke all over the air which connotes danger for the people there and mostly for the singer. This creates the thriller as we know that these things lead to the rough action.

The sound in the part of the thriller has people screaming and shouting in terror. This displays thriller as it creates an image in the audience’s head of people being frantic. Also, we hear “we need more security here now!” This quote creates thriller because it creates suspense for the audience and reveals how big the situation is.
