Buried - Film analysis.

I have chosen Buried to analyse as a thriller because throughout out the movie there is a lot of scene and shots which gets the audience really excited.

Director: Rodrigo Cortes ( Director of Dirty Devil and Upcoming movie Red Lights)
Writer: Chris Sparling
Stars: Ryan Reynolds

Budget: Less than 2 million dollars
Box Office: $19,152,480

Distributors: Lionsgate and Warner Bros

First the title of the movie itself creates a thrilling atmosphere.  It makes you think it's going to be a dark tight place. People who are claustrophobic would be reluctant to watch it but they should still give it a go as I highly recommend it.

The movie starts off with a non-diegetic sound which straight away sets the tone. This is played in the title sequence where we see the writing change with blue blood dripping. This special fx tells us that it won't be a gore type of movie but one that will alerts us that there will be death. Another special fx that really stood was the production company at the very beginning.

There are various shots in the movie that really gets the audience to think and confused. For example at one point the screen if just black.

To create tension the use of over lapping voice where Ryan attempts to commit suicide. The shot changes to a close up of his throat and the knife just about digging in. The diegetic sound of the over lapping here is very tensed and the audience is really on the edge of our seat. We really do thing he's going to do it as he starts to dig and the shot just stays there until it end with him hearing his daughter saying the voice message on the phone.

When the snakes come in the coffin we hear a really upbeat music which gives off a lot of energy. When I watched this I was really on the edge of my seat as he was stuck in the coffin with no where to go and the shots was back and forth of him and the snake.

Miss En Scene: Little pros are used for instace:
Phone
torch
Glowy stick
lighter

Setting:
The movie is based in Iraq and personally I think this was a good idea. We were thought that the war had calmed down but yet it hasn't.

There is a medium shot used near the end of the movie that really confused me and i think confused a lot of other people that watched it. The camera zooms out of Paul Conroy and just keeps on going. Since he is in a coffin and he is blocked all six sides he cannot escape but yet the camera manages to zoom out on him.
