Intertextuality

Intertextuality is copying an element from one body and using it in another.  For example, the shower scene from Psycho (Directed by Alfred Hitchcock) has been recognized by many other film producers and directors. Not only in films but also in cartoon such as The Simpsons.

Some of the similar elements that the Simpsons used was for example the curtain. In both parties the shower curtains clips gets ripped off because the people are pulling on it.

In the original movie, the lady starts to pull the curtain after she gets stabbed by the Psycho. We get a close up shot of the curtain being ripped off the bar. This creates tension as we get the idea that she will die.

We can see the use of intertextuality in the Simpsons. Again we get a close up shot of the curtain being pulled up. Further more we see more elements being used in the Simpsons that was originally from Psycho. For instance the shot of the drain whole with the blood going getting washed away.

The same diegetic sound is used when Homer and the lady in Psycho screams for the life when they are about to be attacked. We see this with the same camera shot in both Psycho and Simpsons.
